• The currency used in Turkey is Turkish Lira. While you can use Euro or USD in touristical areas, if  you have Turkish Lira with you, it becomes much easier for you. You can find exchange offices almost everywhere.
  • Almost of all of the flights to Turkey arrive first in Istanbul. There are 2 airports in Istanbul, Ataturk International Airport (IST) and Sabiha Gokcen International Airport (SAW). Ataturk Airport is 25 Km and Sabiha Gokcen Airport is 45 Km to the center of Istanbul (Old City).
  • If you travel to Turkey during the national or religious holiday of the country, make sure that you arrange bus tickets, flight tickets, and accomodation much in advance because most of the Turkish people travel within the country and it gets too hard to find availability.
  • There are some some certain days when some museums and places are closed. Grand Bazaar on Sunday, Hagia Sophia Museum on Monday, Topkapi Palace on Tuesday, Dolmabahce Palace & Beylerbeyi Palace on Monday & Thursday.
  • In Turkey, bus journeys are very common, and buses are very comfortable.There is no toilet in any of the buses but they have break(s) on the way for personal needs.
  • If anyone in the street offers you to a place for drinks, party, etc, simply say no and dont go.However do not ignore the friendliness of Turkish people who are willing to help you.
  • You can find a great range of accomodation such as hotel, hostel and guesthouses. Turkish people will also be willing to host you in their house if you are up to a different experience.
  • In most of the touristical areas, you will encounter brokers in the street. Their purpose is to take you to the shops, sell you something and get their commission. Do not trust people that you do not know.
  • Be careful for the taxi scum. This is not a specific issue to Turkey but universal, so you had better be prepared for it. When you need taxi, just ask your agent or hotel reception and they call a taxi from a taxi stop which is a definite trust.Try not to use taxi for short distance because they charge much.
  • Try to avoid beachwear while visiting places other than the beach. In cities remember that Turkey is a Muslim culture it is wise to dress like you’re in a big city. For visiting religious sites women should wear a long sleeved tops, long skirt or pants and cover their heads with a scarf or hat. This type of respect for the religion and culture in Turkey is always greatly appreciated.
